Magic

I think I had one of the longest conversations I have ever had with our barely ten year old son, Ryan this past week. I don't know if it was because we were on vacation or because we were both floating like two wine corks on the surface of the beautiful and crystal blue Pacific Ocean.
Whatever it was, it was magical. I think it is easier to see magic when your away from your regular duties of work and home life.
Ryan had only just completed fourth grade at Del Sur Elementary School a week earlier, so I was shocked when he began talking about developing his own IPAD applications and how JAVA script really works. He then quickly crossed into how it could be technically possible to use a scraper to gather animal cells, place the cells in a gene selector and then separate the individual strands of DNA so they could possibly be manipulated. Are you kidding me? I looked around for the hidden camera. What were you taking about in fourth grade? I know in my life at that age it was little league baseball, pop warner football and maybe, just maybe, where I was going to ride my bicycle. Ryan summed up his lengthy speech by complimenting his latest teacher, Mrs. Whitehouse. I know his education did not start or is going to end with her, but she is an amazing woman and a great teacher. There are so many awesome teachers like her who have positively impacted all our kids.
Have a great week,
Ray
